History of the Friends

In 1993/4, when the Practice ( Drs Robin Norman, Anna Haylett, Malcolm McLean, Patrick Reade ) was moving to the present premises in Deer Park, a group of volunteer fundraisers was rallied to help raise sufficient funding to enable the new premises to be furnished and equipped attractively. This resulted in the group launching a heady year of fundraising events ranging from a charity auction, fun-run, sponsored slim, and open garden events to coffee mornings, wine tasting, and an antiques roadshow. Over £50,000 was raised. A trust was also created at the time to handle the banking and administration of the fundraising and donations. Such was the momentum of the campaign and the good feeling engendered within the local community, that it was decided, when the fundraising ceased, that it would be a good idea to set up a patient liaison group and widen the aims of the group. Thus the 'Friends' was started.
